Grozny's eight-day theatre week reaches its final day

As the Federation Festival of National Theatres concludes on 6 October, the Nuradilov Theatre's 95th year and theatre museum meet on one cultural route.

An empty theatre with red curtains and warm stage lights

The seventh Federation Festival of National Theatres, which opened in Grozny on 29 September, concludes today. Across eight days, companies working in national languages from different regions met through performances, professional exchange and educational sessions. The same week also marked 95 years of the Khanpasha Nuradilov Chechen State Academic Drama Theatre, linking the city's theatrical memory with its current stage.

At a glance

  • The theatre celebrates its 95th year in 2026.
  • The Federation Festival ran in Grozny from 29 September to 6 October.
  • The theatre's current listing shows museum visits from 10:00 to 17:00.

More than an anniversary

The institutional history published for the 95th anniversary describes a company that had to rebuild its stage, sets and archive across different periods while continuing to train actors and maintain a Chechen-language repertoire. That continuity gives the anniversary its weight: it is not only a remembrance of earlier artists, but a view of how a theatrical language moves between generations.

The picture on the final day

According to the framework announced by the Theatre Workers' Union of Russia, the festival brought professional companies working in national languages to Grozny, alongside round tables and an educational programme. The union expected more than 600 cultural participants. That scale turned the week from a single anniversary occasion into a professional meeting of different theatrical traditions.

The route continues through the theatre museum

The Nuradilov Theatre's current listing advertises museum visits between 10:00 and 17:00, including presentations titled Modern Theatre and Pages of History. The museum remains a useful stop after the festival for visitors who want to read the anniversary through costumes, stagecraft and company memory rather than as a date alone. Check the theatre listing and box office before visiting because times and access can change.
