Grozny prepares for three days of world coffee

The Roasters Village runs from 14–16 September, bringing experts from Japan, Brazil and Ethiopia together for roasting, fermentation and tasting sessions.

Baristas brewing coffee for visitors at a coffee festival

Grozny will spend three September days looking beyond the cup to coffee's whole journey, from growing and fermentation to roasting and service. Roasters Village 2026 runs from 14–16 September at the Fizika Protsessa project, bringing together producers, researchers and practitioners from Japan, Brazil and Ethiopia.

At a glance

  • The programme runs in Grozny from 14–16 September.
  • Guests are travelling from Japan, Brazil and Ethiopia.
  • The three days combine talks, practical roasting and producer tastings.

Three coffee geographies

The international programme brings three distinct producing and service cultures to one table. Specialists from Brazil and Ethiopia will discuss cultivation, microbiomes, fermentation and storage, while Japan's Yoshiharu Sakamoto introduces an omakase approach in which coffee service is shaped around the guest.

A programme built around practice

On the first two days, talks are followed by group roasting sessions and producer cuppings. The programme focuses on processing, roasting and ageing coffees from the canephora family, particularly conilon and robusta, allowing participants to compare how a bean changes from production to cup.

How the three days unfold

On 14 September, Brazilian researcher Rosane Freitas Schwan's session on microbiomes and fermentation leads into tasting, a canephora-roasting class and group practice. Japanese coffee adviser Yoshiharu Sakamoto discusses industry trends on 15 September, alongside sessions on bean storage and further roasting work. The final day brings Sakamoto's personalised coffee-service presentation, a tasting led by Ethiopian producer Frehiwot Kassa and team presentations. It is a full-day training programme, not a quick exhibition visit.

The key point for visitors

This is a professional training programme with places confirmed after registration, not a walk-in city festival. Anyone travelling to Grozny solely for the event should secure confirmation from the organiser before making the trip.
