Grozny's IRT Film Festival is on 10 September: what visitors need to know

IRT brings fiction and documentary shorts to Grozny on 10 September, with a separate competition category for films made in Chechen.

A film studio with cameras and an editing desk

Cinema takes centre stage in Grozny on 10 September. Announced by the Chechen Ministry of Culture, the IRT Street Film Festival brings fiction and documentary shorts into one selection and gives Chechen-language films a category of their own. The venue and screening time have not yet been published, so visitors should make the final step of their plan from the organiser's latest notice.

At a glance

  • The festival takes place in Grozny on 10 September 2026.
  • The selection is open to fiction and documentary shorts of up to 40 minutes.
  • Chechen-language fiction shorts have a dedicated competition category.

Three competition categories

The festival accepts short films running no longer than 40 minutes. Its competition is divided into best fiction short, best Chechen-language fiction short and best documentary short. A dedicated Chechen-language category creates space for the language in screenwriting, performance and cinematic storytelling as well as everyday speech.

A meeting point for emerging filmmakers

The event is intended to be more than a sequence of screenings. The announcement describes a meeting where young directors and short-film crews can present work, learn how others make films and form professional connections. Short film offers a compact but demanding space in which to test writing, performance, cinematography, editing and sound.

Applications close on 5 September

Filmmakers need to complete submissions by 5 September, ahead of the festival on 10 September. Venue, screening times, audience access and the final selection should be checked in the organiser's current notice. Once the programme is published, language and subtitle details will be useful for planning a visit.
