The Grozny Sea became a meeting place for sport fishing rather than a backdrop for a city walk. Organised by Chechnya's Ministry of Tourism and the regional fishing-sport federation, the second Groznaya Bitva festival paired two-person teams across spinning, feeder and float disciplines. The programme also included a separate big-fish category and a chance to meet experienced competition anglers.
At a glance
- Two-person teams competed across two stages.
- Spinning, feeder and float fishing shared the same programme.
- A separate Big Fish category recognised the largest catch.
Two stages, three techniques
The spinning stage rewarded mobile lure work and continuous reading of the water. Feeder and float fishing then tested each team's bank craft, feeding pattern and patience. The format therefore favoured not only specialists but pairs able to adapt between markedly different techniques.
Experienced anglers joined the event
Guests included Pyotr Minenko, an absolute Russian champion in float fishing, and Nikolay Alekseyev, a Master of Sport and Russian Cup silver medallist. Their presence gave the festival a learning dimension beyond the scoreboard, with practical experience in technique and equipment shared at the water's edge.
A new event layer for the Grozny Sea
The Grozny Sea is usually associated with walks, views and waterfront recreation. A sport-fishing festival turns the urban reservoir into a managed outdoor venue and links the city's nature and sport routes. Visitors should distinguish a special event timetable from everyday waterfront rules and check current access through official channels before travelling.

Cinema etiquette
Anyone planning to fish at the Grozny Sea should use only permitted banks and times; festival access does not establish everyday fishing rights. Remove line, hooks and bait packaging, and confirm catch-and-release rules with local staff.
