Spend day one in Magas and Nazran with museums and contemporary urban form. On day two enter via Jeyrakh for Erzi and the Targim basin. On day three choose one weather- and access-appropriate cluster around Vovnushki, Egikal or the Assa Valley. Understanding settlement, defence, water and sightlines is more rewarding than counting towers.
How to read tower architecture
Defensive towers, domestic structures, wall traces and burial grounds may belong to one settlement system.
