A new festival is being added to Chechnya’s contemporary-art calendar. Prepared by the regional Artists’ Union, Artifact — The Art of Generation aims to bring together artists working with AI tools across photography, short video and animation. A competition, exhibition and educational programme are planned, but the date, venue and application timetable have not yet been announced.
At a glance
- The festival plans three competition categories: AI-assisted photography, short video and animation.
- Individual artists and creative teams of up to three people will be eligible to enter.
- The date, venue and application link have not yet been published.
What kind of programme is planned?
The organising committee’s outline combines a competition selection, a physical exhibition and educational sessions. Entrants are expected to be able to submit up to three works in each of the three categories. Artists, directors, cinematographers, actors and photographers are planned for the jury, although its final membership has not been published.
Why is human intent central?
Project director and regional Artists’ Union chair Ismail Denilkhanov places the emphasis on the artist’s intention and responsibility for the result rather than on the production tool alone. That approach distinguishes the festival from a simple software showcase: the selection will need to consider not only how an image was made, but what it communicates and the context on which it relies.
Chechnya’s digital-art thread
The festival does not emerge from a vacuum. Denilkhanov’s 2026 exhibition Eternal Meanings, shown at Moscow’s State Museum of Oriental Art and later in Grozny, brought traditional calligraphy together with digital production. The new festival aims to move that conversation from a single-artist exhibition into an international, multidisciplinary programme.
What should prospective entrants and visitors wait for?
It is too early to plan travel or submit an entry. Prospective participants should wait for the organisers to publish the confirmed date and venue, submission method, rights terms, disclosure rules for AI tools and the visitor programme. This page will be updated when those official details are released.

Cinema etiquette
Artists should avoid imitating a living creator’s style without permission or using a person’s face without consent. Projects involving cultural heritage should clearly state their sources, permissions and context.
